ART OF THE APY ART CENTRE COLLECTIVE

25-Jul-2018 - 25-Aug-2018
194-18_preview.jpeg.jpg

Alcaston Gallery is thrilled to present a major exhibition of paintings and ceramics from the APY Art Centre Collective, a trailblazing organisation that comprises of entirely Indigenous owned and governed art centres working out of the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands (APY Lands) located in remote Central Australia in the far northern tip of South Australia. This exhibition highlights the diversity of individual emerging and senior artists currently working at APY Lands art centres. The artists draw on their traditional Anangu knowledge of land and law each with a unique interpretation of their country and culture, ranging from vibrant colour to subtle monochromes, from striking compositions to intricate detail, to achieve a highly sophisticated and contemporary aesthetic.

Thank you to the artists and staff and board of the participating art centres for their support and assistance in the preparation of this exhibition: Ernabella Arts, Iwantja Arts, Mimili Maku Arts, Tjala Arts and the APY Art Centre Collective.
