ARANDA COUNTRY•PAINTINGS ON PAPER | AN ARCHIVAL RELEASE BY THE HERMANNSBURG POTTERS
![Judith_Inkamala_ArchivalWorksOnPaper_HermannsburgPotters.jpg](https://via.placeholder.com/300x300.png?text=)
Alcaston Gallery presents a series of framed paintings on paper by Hermannsburg Potters that exemplify the diverse and exciting art of the Western Aranda people.
These paintings of flora, birds, bush tucker and landscapes of West Aranda Country in the Northern Territory give context and connection to iconic Ntaria/Hermannsburg art movements. Painted in 1995 by several of the emerging Hermannsburg Potters, this archival release from Alcaston Gallery celebrates Aranda Country and the renowned Hermannsburg School of artists founded by Albert Namatjira.
At the time of painting these works, an emerging generation of Western Aranda artists had just founded the groundbreaking ceramic art movement, the Hermannsburg Potters. These artists would go on to become master ceramists and painters in their own right including Irene Mbitjana Entata, Carol Panangka Rontji and Judith Pungarta Inkamala, who was recently invited to present a major solo presentation at Tarnanthi 2023 at the Art Gallery of South Australia in Adelaide.
Aranda Country • Paintings on Paper is on exhibition at the Alcaston Gallery Exhibition Space, 84 William Street Melbourne/Naarm from 8 May – 31 May 2024 in conjunction with new ceramic works by the Hermannsburg Potters in AFL Footy in Aranda Country Award.
