Betty Kuntiwa Pumani • Titutjara - Ongoing

05-Jun-2024 - 21-Jun-2024
AK23292_Betty_Pumani_cms.jpg

Alcaston Gallery is honoured to present Titutjara - Ongoing, a solo exhibition of significant paintings by revered artist and respected ngangkari (traditional healer), Betty Kuntiwa Pumani.

One of Australia’s most distinctive and sophisticated painters, Pumani is renowned for her visionary compositions that portray her ancestral Country of Antara in northwest South Australia.

In Titutjara - Ongoing, Pumani's embarks on a bold artistic progression in her impressive new body of work, displaying an intriguing variation to her paint application, focusing her palette on luminous whites and soft pastel hues that counteract with her signature rich swathes of blues and reds.

Beyond the visual landscape, her works reverberate with a much larger story of Antara, revealing deeper resonances of family, ancestors, and inherited knowledge; an ongoing, eternal story that now passes through Pumani, as a custodian for this Country, as it reaches into the future.

Betty Kuntiwa Pumani’s seventh solo exhibition at Alcaston Gallery, Titutjara - Ongoing will be on exhibition from 5 June - 21 June 2024.
